MARCHIONNE MANDA A SUS EMPLEADOS UNA CARTA EXPLICÁNDOLES EL DESCENSO DE BENEFICIOS.
UNA CARTA IMPECABLE Y LLENA DE ENERGÍA PARA QUE LOS TRABAJADORES SE SIENTAN PARTÍCIPES.
Me parece algo increíble y muy positivo.
Dear Colleagues,
As anticipated, the first-quarter results that we announced today show a
decline in net income from the comparable period in 2012. We previously
alerted analysts to this event, based on the fact that we shut down or
reduced production at some of our assembly plants in order to prepare for
the launch of key new products.
This is a one-off event. We are not backing off from our sales and
financial goals for the full year, but we will need to be at the top of our
game to reach these targets.
We earned $166 million in Q1, our seventh consecutive quarter of positive
net income, although it represented a 65 percent decrease from the same
period last year. Our modified operating profit came in at $435 million,
down 41 percent. As a result of shipment volumes that were 8 percent lower
in the quarter, our total revenues declined by 6 percent, to $15.4 billion.
There are concrete reasons to explain this lower performance.
During the first quarter, the Toledo Assembly Complex did not produce the
Jeep Liberty as it installed new tooling and prepared for the launch of the
Liberty successor, the 2014 Jeep Cherokee that will play a key role in
growing our share in the important midsize SUV segment.
We also saw reduced production numbers during the quarter as we ramped up
for the refreshed 2014 Jeep® Grand Cherokee and our new Ram Heavy Duty
pickups.
These are the reasons we must, each of us, raise the bar of our commitment.
We must exercise personal discipline in order to flawlessly execute our
plans. The battle to succeed persists and, now that our competitors know we
are for real, it is even harder than before.
The good news is that demand for our products remains strong. Worldwide
vehicle sales increased 8 percent year-to-year, to 563,000 vehicles. In the
U.S., we have now recorded 36 consecutive months of year-over-year sales
gains, and we have attained this feat for 40 consecutive months in Canada,
the longest current streak in the industry, where we finished the quarter
as No. 1 in sales. These marks were achieved despite limited inventory on
some of our models.
We continue to invest substantially in both product and marketing in order
to put Chrysler on a sound foundation for long-term success. During Q1, we
announced an investment of $374 million to boost transmission production
and add about 1,250 new jobs in Indiana to produce our new, fuel-efficient
eight- and nine-speed automatic transmissions.
We also generated significant conversation with our two Super Bowl
commercials. The Ram video, “Farmer,” and the Jeep message, “Whole Again,”
created visibility for initiatives that support two key strongholds of
American society— the country’s farmers and its armed forces.
Both videos are meant to celebrate dedication and work ethic—two of the
characteristics of the group we are creating at Chrysler. These are the
very virtues that have helped us author a remarkable comeback story, but
the narrative has many more chapters to write. We will need to apply the
same resolve to execute at a high level in order to reach our 2013 goals. I
ask you to reflect on your own performance and contribution in order to
improve everywhere possible. Let’s stay true to the values of integrity,
meritocracy and accountability that have sustained us to this point.
Dedication to these principles will enable us to continue down the path of
sustainable growth.
