Present on the first edition of the spectacular Montée des Légendes event in France last September was an Endurance Racing Legend that is certainly a Monster in its own right thanks to its incredible curriculum and incredible specs.

Conservatively driven by its owner Pierre-Louis Carpéne, it was still possible to watch the massive 8.0L Naturally Aspirated V10 engine in action with its 620Hp and 800Nm. Opportunities like this might not happen all that often from here on out as these machines are starting to see its value rise, given the very successfull Motorsports career and their rarity so nothing better than celebrate by showing one "stretching its legs" on a proper Hillclimb like the one at Col de la Faucille.

This is Didier Deniset´s Monster, an absolutely beautiful unit of the rare Renault 5 Turbo "Tour De Corse", raced by the frenchman for over 20 years on both Rallying and HillClimb Racing. With its 1.4L Turbocharged engine ine rear postion producing upwards of 280Hp to move 900Kg, the Rear Wheel Drive Classic Hatchback is still today a very fast machine capable and one still showing how capable the Group B-era machines will always be.

As such, it is only normal that it participated on this year´s first edition of Montée des Legendes at Col de la Faucille alongside other Motorsport Icons.

From the Top 10 fastest Touring Cars at the HillClimb Masters in Gubbio, probably the most impressive was Manuel Dondi at the wheel of his "giant-slayer" FIAT X1/9.

Against a field of 700+Hp Mitsubshi Evos, ex-DTM cars, Judd V8 powered machines at top spec GT3 cars, the tiny 320Hp/670Kg Alfa Romeo D2 powered machine was the 2nd fastest, only behind the mighty 630Hp/11.300Rpm SLK340 Judd V8 of Reto Meisel. And even that was even for only less than 1 second.

So sit back and enjoy a proper masterclass of high speed driving, while Manuel Dondi shows how to squeeze every last drop of performance from the humble X1/9.

Formula 1 driver Romain Grosjean was one of the stars of Montée des Légendes, driving the Group B model from Lancia, the TwinCharged Lancia Delta S4. Even more special is the fact that the car he drove was a official Lancia Rally team unit, raced by Rallying Legend Henri Toivonen.

Now owned by Bruno Ianniello, this machine is a pretty much an "historic monument" given its curriculum. Once driven by an Icon of the Rallying World, now owned by an a Legend of HillClimb racing and driven by the Haas Team Formula 1 driver. Quite the combo we would say. That it is a "bona fide" 600Hp, turbocharged, supercharged, Group B Monster just adds up to the awesomeness.

A bit of a blast from the past, it´s the very cool Renault Clio Williams Maxi driven by Thomas Flik for over a decade on the German Berg-Cup series. Hop onboard the 2.0L, F7R engined Renault Sport Hatchback on Wolsfeld 2014 and see how quick this 250Hp/900Kg FWD is.

Using a Sadev ST75 6-speed Sequential Gearbox and further lightened from the original Rally Car it is based on, it raced until 2015 when a crash ended its career and many of its mechanical parts were transferred to the Renault Mégane Maxi now run by Flik Motorsport.

But honestly, we still prefer this Clio Mk1....

This is George Kexagias´ Monster coming from Greece, and part of the Greek Team on the last HillClimb Masters edition in Gubbio. It is a 500Hp, 2.0L Cosworth YB Turbo powered Ford Sierra that has been transformed through the years into RS500-spec and after reaching that point, evolved even further.

So it is lightened to around 1000Kg, uses some quite bodywork and retains the Rear Wheel drive configuration, while using also a 6 speed Sequential Gearbox among other goodies. But more than that it is by now a nit of a Legend of Greek Hillclimb Racing, competing on the local National Championship for more than a decade a being probablythe best symbol for the unique Formula Saloon Class used on that Championship.

Luigi Sambuco won the 2.0L Class of Italian Championship at the wheel of his old Alfa Romeo 155 Touring Car, an unlikely return to a machine with some great history and nowadays almost considered a Classic of Touring Car Racing.

Powered by the D2 Engine that was orginally designed by Alfa Corse and built by Abarth, it is now in its final spec developing 310Hp/8.800Rpm. It is lso lightened beyond what Touring Car series rulebooks required, so under 950Kg. All this is in a FWD Monster, now finely tuned by SAMO Competition.

At HillClimb Masters 2018 in Gubbio it fought very hard for a place in the very Top of its 2000cc Class, against some of the Best in Europe and ended up placing 2nd ony behind Tom Strasser and his almighty Scirocco by Minichberger.

Giannis Kapetanios was the winner of the 2018 edition of Platres HillClimb at the wheel of his renewed 650Hp Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution VII. This was a successful return as the multiple Cyprus HillClimb Champion had been out of action for over 2 years.

With his Lancer Evo now with added power, a 6-speed Sequential Gearbox, link ECU and a completely new VARIS bodykit to maximize downforce, it proved too strong for the competition present and will certainly turn into one of the main candidates to win Championships once again.

The Naturally Aspirated V8 Supercar proved again too much for the competition although the oppositin of Marco Iacoangeli in the thunderous BMW Z4 GT3 made for an exciting fight right until the very last event of the year.

To prove how competitive the duo is, Mr. Peruggini was even among 4th Fastest Touring Car on the HillClimb Masters at Gubbio while being once again the fastest GT Car.

Now for 2019, there´s the chance this Monster couldbe sold to fund a new, more ambitious project... Will we see the first Ferrari 488 GT3 in HillClimb Racing??

The Rallycross Team from Sweden has prepared this Monster taking as base the Pikes Peak car that Marcus Gronholm raced on 2009. This machine even had on the beginning of this season the whole aerodynamic package from the Pikes Peak car but has since then opted for the more modern bodywork package.

One of the greatest new Hillclimb Monsters of 2018 was the surprising Mitsubishi Lancer Evo V of Szymon Lukaszczyk from Poland. Still a 2.0L Turbo Engine, it was tuned by 4Turbo PL to a staggering 700Hp. All this transferred to All Four Wheels through a 6-Speed Sequential Gearbox and moving only 1130Kg of weight.

At Gubbio, in the ultra competitive HillClimb Masters 2018, it placed among the 10 fastest Touring Cars of the event while being the third fastest Lancer Evo, still in the same second of Roger Schnellmann in his car with over 5 years of development.

One can only imagine how fast this machine will be in the future and surely this is not the only time it will be featured on our Channel. In the meanwhile, it is more than worthwhile to watch Mr. Lukaszczyk exploits in Italy. It looked quite spectacular and sounded tremendously aggressive...

And now for something completely different and that probably we will never see again on Hillclimb Racing, we bring some footage of the Peugeot 3008 DKR Maxi that did some Demo runs on the Montée des Légendes event at Col de la Faucille.

As the name implies, this is the Dakar-ready machine of Peugeot Sport. Powered by a 3.0L Twin Turbo Diesel V6 Engine producing 340Hp and a massive 800Nm, this was certainly not the right choice for an asphalt Hilclimb couse with its outrageous ride height and Gravel tires, but it was definitely interesting to watch. With Jean Pascal Besson at the wheel, and not afraid of getting sideways in the process, we were able to see how the car that won the 2017 and 2018 edition of the Dakar Rally copes with a French Hillclimb.

Not that anybody was specially curious.. let´s say this one was for Science...

Anthony Dubois has raced over the years on the French Hillclimb Championship with his quite unique Scora Maxi. This is a French Sports Car from the 70´s that has seen many variations as Racing Cars under the guise of either Scora or Jidé.

Built within the Group F regulations of old, it is powered by a mid-mounted 1.4L Turbocharged engine from the Renault 5 Turbo here producing 350Hp/450Nm. All this moving only 820Kg makes for an very machine that has produced very strong results through the years and even on 2018 is still taking very good care of itself.

Tamás Tomcsanyi races and prepares quite the unique machine, a LADA 2101, which has evolved tremendously in the last couple years. The 1.6L Naturally Aspirated RWD car from Russia features now Sequential Gearbox and a lot of bespoke bodywork, and while we do not know the exact Power and weight figures ( anyone who does, leave it on the comments below..) given its pace, it should be over 160Hp and less than 800Kg surely. ( Edit: After posting the video, Mr. Tomcsanyi contacted us and gave the current spec: 180Hp/9.200Rpm, 870Kg with the engine from a LADA Niva with forged interior, Hayabusa injector system and Motec ECU ).

But more than that, it is Mr. Tomcsanyi driving style that really stands out, with a quite aggressive approach, never afraid to use some powersliding in the process. For that, this duo certainly deserves our respect and all the support the fans gives them in each event they enter. Like here at Buzet HillClimb 2018.

Milan Bubnic and his renewed Lancia Delta Integrale were one of the biggest stars of the 2018 year of Hillclimb Racing, showing speed on a level never achieved before by the Slovenian Team.

In what we imagine was the product of shedding some weight from the previous Spec which was limited by the Slovenian National HillClimb Championship regulations, the 700Hp highly Turbocharged Monster has started now posting results right at the very Top of the Touring Car leaderboard in every event it enters.

On the video we can watch it in action on both Buzet and Ilirska-Bistrika Hillclimbs where it finished on 2nd and 1st respectively. That the main opponent on both events was Karl Schagerl in the mighty Golf Mk2 TFSi-R, gives some perspectibe on how quick this Delta is now....

One of the most intriguing cars on this year´s edition of Retro Rides Gathering was this Ford Fiesta XR2 Mk2 from 1987, powered by the 2.0L engine from the Focus ST170, but with the addition (of a very audible) Eaton Supercharger.

Property of Liam Stolton, it is an immaculately finished machine and one that is by now extensively modified, going far beyond the engine swap already mentioned. Adding to the Eaton M45 Supercharger that makes it possible to achieve 198Hp/7.500Rpm, there´s also a Quaife IB5 gearbox to transmit the power to the Front Wheels, with its interior fully striped to ensure that this machine weighs the minimum possible (around 850Kg in this case), all adding to the use of lighter material when it came to the bespoke Aerodynamic kit that really sets this Fiesta Mk2 apart from any other you have seen until now.

And was the second fastest Lancer Evolution model at the event while placing among the 10 fastest Touring Cars.

To achieve that, having over 700Hp from its 4G63 engine certainly helped alongside weighing only around 1100Kg. Bespoke Aerodynamic slutions helped getting all this power tot he ground, although its handling was still quite lairy, which made it quite the fan favourite. And turns out that further development will be made for the 2019 Season... We´ll be waiting anxiously...

André Wurcher debuted on this 2018 season this cute looking Monster, a 1970 FIAT 500, fully spaceframed and powered by a Honda CBR1000 Engine. Apart from the unique looks, its the stratospheric Rev Limit that stands out in this diminutive machine. At 14.800Rpm this is one seriously highly-strung Classic.

All this high-revving madness is good to produce 170Hp, with torque being somewhat sacrificed along the way (104Nm in this case). Of course in this case and in such a small machine using a spaceframed chassis, total weight is very low. Tipping the scales at 640Kg, it is no wonder that this little Yellow Demon is as quick as one can see on the clip of its run at Cividale Castemonte 2018.
But this was only the beginning of this hatchback´s development, certainly we´ll see much more of it ( and much faster ) on 2019. And we´ll be here to document it...
