This time we go to Greece, where at Ritsona HillClimb 2019, we could find this spectacular Alfa Romeo 75 Turbo unit driven by Vagelis Xantzis in a quite aggressive manner. A very Old-School Machine, with a proper H-pattern Gearbox and Three Pedals, Rear Wheel Drive, no electronics whatsoever and quite a bit of Turbo Lag, it is perfect for some "scary" sideways moments.

With the 1.8L Inline 4 Engine aided now by a Turbo taken from a Mitsubishi Lancer Evo VIII and producing a very healthy 410Hp and moving only 1100Kg, the final result can only be described by the footage provided both outside and Onboard. Although watching Mr. Xantzis manhandling this Beast through this Greek Mountain certainly is something we are sure everyone will appreciate to the fullest....

Special Thanks to KasG Randy for the footage provided without which this video would be impossible to make. Subscribe to their Channel right here:

Wolsfeld is quite the unique Hillclimb. It is very narrow, very twisty and quite short, making the cars with better mechanical traction and agility the faster, over the normal high powered, Aero Monsters. This was very clear to see on this year´s edition of the event.

Among the Top 10 better placed Monsters in the German HillClimb (counting towards the Berg-Cup series) we had a whole host of very finely tuned VW and Opel machines from the 2000cc Class, taking advantage of their very agile and finely tuned nature, with even a 1600cc powered Machine almost breaking into the podium.

Being this said, the Winner,( even winning the event overall in front of the Sport Prototypes and Formulas) was still a quite familiar Monster, now wearing a new livery. One that can definitely add Monstruous Power with trmendous traction and efficiency... Discover for yourself in the video...

Among the very fast and highly efficient Skoda Fabia "Armada" coming from Czech Republic and Poland, there´s also Waldemar Kluza´s unit, taking the Fabia R5 as base and going quite nuts from there.

Widebodied, wearing a quite aggessive Aerodynamic kit and with its 2.0L turbocharged engine producing around 680Hp, this is a tremendously quick little machine, taking advantage of its low weight of 910Kg, highly efficient 6-speed paddle operated gearbox and All Wheel Drive system directly lifted from the Rally Car it is based on.

HillClimb Monsters

Publicado el 1 jul. 2019

Counting for the FIA European HillClimb Cup, this Slovenian HillClimb always features some very special machinery, with 2019 being no different. Along with some familiar Monsters that already fight regularly for the Top spots in each event they enter, this year we got to see the debut of a very special machine:

So among Touring Cars, GT3-spec Monsters, the 600+Hp AWD SEAT and Skoda we got also to watch Matej Grudnik´s Renault Clio E1 Turbo, a very special project now debuting after almost 3 years of development. Still very much in testing, it is a bespoke widebodied Renault Clio powered by the 2.0L Turbo engine from the Mégane RS. Here still in Front Wheel Drive form and with around 400Hp, it is a Monster we´ll see evolving in the coming months, where over 500Hp, AWD transmission and much less weight are the goals. Definitely one to keep watching...

Now fitted with a paddle-operated 6-speed Sequential Gearbox and slowly being converted in "Euro-HillClimb" spec, we were able to catch this Flying Finn at Wolsfeld HillClibm where despite some mechanical issues, it still achieved a final 3rd Place ont he 1600cc Class. And trust us, it is only getting faster from this point on...

This is Bruno Piantoni´s highly modified Maserati Ghibli, and it is certainly among the most unique Monsters we have captured in the last year. It is already an incredibly rare car on its own, but much more so to see one being transformed into a full blown Racing machine as this 2.0L V6 Twin-Turbo is, here racing at Verzegnis Hillclimb 2019

With over 400Hp thanks to some major engine tuning, this machine also benefits from its fiberglass bodywork to lower the weight towards the 1100Kg mark, and while at it applying a whole host of aerodynamic changes that really take the Italian machine from a Classic looking thing to some sort of Frankenstein-esque Time Attack racer. In any case we hope to see a lot more of it in the future and watch closely its evolution...

The 310Hp/8.750Rpm 2.0L Naturally Aspirated Monster is one of the fastest FWD machines in the Sport, with its low total weight of 975Kg helping a lot, alongside its X-trac 6-speed Sequential Gearbox. More than that it is also a proper Touring Car from the same mould of all the famous BTCC/ETCC machines from the late 90´s and early 2000´s, that marked pretty much the end of an era of NA, highly tuned, highly developed Touring Car racers that we will probably never see again...

Coming from Greece, this is the SRT Motorsport Citroen AX Maxi Evo 3 driven by Alex Tsiogkas, one of the fastest 1600cc Class machines in the local Championship and certainly one of the most unique being a mix of a highly tuned Citroen AX and a Peugeot 106 Maxi.

Powered by a highly modified TU5JP4 in Naturally Aspirated form capable of 230Hp/9.100Rpm, it is also a rather light thing, weighing only 840Kg (minimum allowed weight given regulations), while using a 6 speed sequential Sadev ST75-14 Gearbox, alongside some proper PSA racing parts mainly in its chassis and suspension with uprights ,wishbones, McPherson strut, antiroll bars, full rear axle, steering rack and the 17x7 wheels being taken straight from a eugeot 106 Maxi unit.

With other goodies like EFI Euro 4 Engine management, Ohlins 3-way shocks and Alcon Brakes ( with the front ones measuring at a impressive 355!! ), this is also an ever evolving machine with its engine unit having already another evolution lined up. With 250Hp/9.800Rpm coming soon we suspect this won´t be the last time we´ll feature this machine on our Channel...

For now, let´s enjoy watching Mr. Tsiogkas taking this little rocket through Ritsona Hillclimb completely flat out...

Some days ago when we posted Mikko Kataja´s Toyota Starlet 4AGE video and explained he finished 3rd in his Class, some people commented how fast the other two guys have had to be. Well, one of those guys is Andy Heindrichs, and you can watch here how the young Belgian used his 222Hp/730Kg Opel Corsa A to achieve the 2nd Place on the E1-1600 Class in Wolsfeld HillClimb 2019.

Although not the most powerful machine in this Class, it is driven to the absolute limit and counts with a number of quite unique solution, with the most proeminet being the use of a BMW S1000RR motorbike Engine head with the original Opel 1.6L block to make for quite the high.revving machine (and quite good sounding too to boot...).

Apart from that,, weighing in at 730Kg, it is certainly a light Hot Hatch, and one that will certainly evolve thorugh this 2019 Season while being driven like a maniac... As you can certainly confirm with the Onboard footage provided...

This is Hans Thalmayr´s Monster and it is one with quite the story. Powered by a stroked 1570cc Naturally Aspirated Engine from a Suzuki Hayabusa bike producing 250Hp/11.000Rpm, it is one of the creations of the late Georg Pucher, having competed last between 2009/2010, but has since been bought by the Austrian Slalom/HillClimb driver.

Tuned to fit within E2-Sh 1600 Class, it weighs the very minimum the rules permit, which is 585Kg. It is then a properly quick machine and certainly a very agile one. Here it can be seen at Verzegnis HillClimb in Italy where it not only won its Class but also almost broke into the 10 Fastest Touring Car Monsters present.

And above all, it is one we enjoy immensely seeing back on the Mountains, given its origins and background...

Here it can be seen in action on 2 different Hillclimbs held during this 2019 Season: Eschdorf and Wolsfeld. The Austrian HillClimb Championship continued at Neudorf Bei Passail, now with some rain added to the mix and some new faces on the Top 10 List. By now the "invasion" of the 1.2L Turbocharged cars is getting more serious with Franz Probst coming back in his Golf 1170 Turbo, alongside Andreas Marko continuing the development of the fantastic Audi A4 STW Turbo.

But we can also see now a new Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution model showing some true potential with Stefan Promok returning with his Evo VIII, now in a much more serious spec, both mechanically and aesthetically.

We also have Lukas Boric with the frantic TracKing RC01 showing how fast a Suzuki GSX-R can be when moving only 450Kg of spaceframed bodywork and other than these we have some of usual suspects.. but some surprises on how they ended up... Check for yourself and let us know what you think ;)

We return to Leadfoot Festival on New Zealand to present this 1972 Mazda 616, driven by Mark Strawbridge, a proper Naturally Aspirated, Rotary machine, powered by a 12A PP engine reaching a sonorous 285Hp/10.000Rpm.

Imported from Australia in original condition in 2006, the restoration of this 616 was a 4 year process, all while not only rehabilitating this machine but also preparing it to be raced in pretty serious conditions. Tuned to a very high level, this can easly be mistaken for an ex works car. With the 12A PP Naturally Aspirated engine unit being definitely the highlight of the build, it is also important tot note the effort during the last years to lose as much weight as possible, tipping the scales nowadays at a very impressive 900Kg.

It is not only a fast machine, but one where the attention to detail stands out, all while staying a truly analogue race car, something so hard to find nowadays.

Top Greece HillClimb Monsters ||

Publicado el 1 ago. 2019

Arguably the two fastest Monsters currently racing on Greek HillClimbs, these are Mario Iliopoulos´ Ford Focus WRC (an ex-works unit) and Panagiotis Soldatos´ Ford Fiesta Turbo (prepared by Olsbergs MSE of Rallycross fame).

Both All Wheel Drive, both with over 500Hp, their differences are rooted way more on their construction with Iliopoulos´ car being a proper ex-WRC unit, pretty much de-restricted and set-up for Hillclimb events, while Soldatos´ Fiesta is a less "traditional" build, using a 2.0L Turbocharged Mitsubishi 4G63 engine alongside a vastly spaceframed chassis.

In the end they battled for victory at Ritsona Hillclimb down to the very end. With some engine problems (somewhat audible on the video) almost taking the victory away from Mr. Iliopoulos, a very last run on maximum attack still awarded him the win, although for little over a second.

In the upcoming months expect these two machines to face each other again, and while the Fiesta will continue it´s evolution, there ares rumour that the Focus wil be replaced altogether for an entirely new Monster... We´ll be here to show if that´s the case...
