Before the famous Suzuki Escudo of Gran Turismo fame, Nobuhiro "Monster" Tajima developed for years different and increasingly powerful versions of the Swift/Cultus in Twin Engined Spec. This is one of the very last and for the surprise of many, not racing on Pikes Peak Hillclimb. It is racing on the All Japan Dirt Trial series, year 1995. Powered by two G13B engines producing a total of approximately 700Hp and moving only 840Kg. A Full Spaceframed machine with a Central Driving position and a Legend of Hillclimb Racing at the wheel on his prime. So the best is just to enjoy this little Gem from the past...

Driven by Roland Luger in selected Hillclimb Racing events and on Historic Cup races, this Monster is powered by a Naturally Aspirated Inline 6 cylinder engine with 3.8 litres capable of over 500Hp/8.000Rpm.

This is an evolved version specially adapted for Hillclimb Racing of the 1993 DTM-spec Omega Evo 500. While only producing 440Hp on that period because of the series regulations, no such limitations are present on the Austrian Bergrennen series where this Orange beast was mostly raced on recent years.

Straight from the Golden Era of Touring Car racing and most particularly DTM (which sees its current existance seriously threatened by now with Mercedes leaving the roster in favour of Formula E) comes one of the most mechanically awesome machines ever raced. And capable of leaving its mark on Hillclimb Racing too..

This is a proper Gem lost in Time. Yuji Kase, the boss of Cusco Racing/Carrosser campaigned this monstruous EG33 Turbo, mid-engined Subaru Impreza in the crazy Class D of Japan Dirt Trial series for almost a decade.

A 600+Hp Monster powered by a Flat-6 engine and sporting an aluminium monocoque, Cusco’s own long stroke suspension, among many other bespoke parts making this Beast probably the most unique rally-spec Impreza ever.

For those with a keener eye, they´ll see the similarities with the GT300 Impreza´s that Cusco prepared for the Super GT series and that would be a correct guess since both the cars share the same platform. In this clip it´s possible to see the 3 different versions of this Monster in a period span that lasted between 2000 to 2004. Before that, believe it or not, this machine had its looks based on the Porsche 911...but that´s a story for another day...

Information about it is pretty scarce but it is possible to know that it was mid-engined, Turbocharged, using a spaceframed chassis ensuring total weight is around 800Kg while producing power in the region of 420 to 440Hp making use of a 4G63T engine unit. It used a permanent 4 wheel drive system and for those who follow our Channel, you must be guessing who its main rival was. Yes, it was Monster Tajima with the Twin Engined Suzuki Swift...

Today´s "Nostalgia Trip" will take us again to the All Japan Gymkhana Series and the Toyota MR2 AW11 that fought for several championships in late 80´s and early 90´s at the "hands" of Masahiro Yamamoto.

A 4AGE powered mid-engined machine, in the footage presented it is on its second evolution featuring additional Aerodynamic appendages likes the Rear Wing and side skirts, but also its engine stroked to 1775cc, producing around 220Hp/8.500Rpm. Moving only 620Kg, this was a tremendously nimble thing.

It also featured very interesting methods in its engineering, with a lot of TRD expertise in its development with the most curious solution being how much effort was put into having the most perfect weight distribution possible. Not only the division of back to front was considered but also from right to left with the engine being moved further into the middle of the car even compared to the already mid-engined stock MR2.

This outrageous thing is the craziest Nissan March you will ever see. It is powered by a VQ35DETT engine mounted in rear-central position producing 650Hp/700Nm, it´s 4 Wheel Drive and competed on the last Leadfoot Festival at the hands of accomplished Touring Car driver Paul Radisich.

This is a creation of Glenn Hodges of The Lab Limited in New Zealand, a former Aircraft Technician, who set out to transform the innocent Nissan March into a Group B of the Modern Era. Using mainly Nissan parts for all the project, we have here a 350GT Skyline engine aided by a pair of Garrett GT2860RS turbochargers. Power is then transferred to the 4 wheels through a late model D22 Navara five speed gearbox, with brakes from the 370Z and much more that we would have to spend all day to explain.

We won´t for now as that will be for another video and another day, where a more in depth look of this machine wil be made. For now, let´s appreciate how it attacked Leadfoot Festival´s Hillcimb in its very first competitive outing, while almost securing a place in the Overall Top 10.

The younger sibling of the Legendary McRae lineage, Alister, has beaten the All Time Record of Leadfoot Festival´s Hillclimb at the wheel of the ex-Possum Bourne Subaru Impreza WRC 1998. Run by Vantage Windows Motorsport and and producing over 800Hp it is a "bona fide" Hillclimb Monster.

It is an ex-Prodrive Subaru 1998 WRC car, which was driven and crashed at Rally New Zealand by Finnish driver Juha Kangas in 1998. The damaged shell was then purchased by the late Possum Bourne. In 2001, after rebuilding the car, Possum drove it to victory at Race to the Sky in 8min 34sec. In 2003, Vantage Motorsport purchased the car after Possum’s death. From 2004-2007, Swedish WRC star Kenneth Eriksson drove the car at RTTS, finishing runner-up on two occasions. In 2011 and 2012, Vantage-supported driver Emma Gilmour to drive at the Leadfoot Festival. After that it was time for Alister McRae to assume driving duties and simply taking the Leadfoot Festival Hillclimb event by storm winning in 2017, 2018 and now on 2019, being the first driver to go below the 48 second mark, posting a 47.99.

More than 10 years of work are behind the development of this Hillclimb/Time Attack weapon and what once started as a stock 270Hp Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution 3 is now running around 760Hp, thanks to highly reworked version of the 4G63T powerplant. The reason behind using such an earlier evolution is because of how sturdy the earlier cast iron block engines and transmissions are, so as strange as it sounds this beast uses a stock 5 speed transmission. How remarkable is that on a car that is being raced for such a long time and is capable of a 0-100Km/h sprint in under 2.5 seconds?

This is a reworked version of one of the very first videos of our Channel, with added footage of the run that gave the overall victory at Platres Hillclimb 2016 to Mr. Lambrou.

So we come back to 1989 to remember another Dirt Trial Racer almost lost in Time, and one with a principle very similar to a Monster we have shown recently. This is a Mid-Engined, VG30DE powered Nissan March K10 4wd.

And from this point, details get very scarce as there really isn´t much more info about this machine. Rumour is that it produced more than 400Hp and thanks to its spaceframed chassis, total weight was below 1000Kg, but very little is known when it comes to other technical specifications.

An incredibly radical concept for the time and surprisingly one that fought for overall victories on the All Japan Dirt Trial Series in that year. After that, it is possible to see that the car was raced not much longer and the most we could find was that it changed livery on 1990, while not being as competitive as before, which in turn should have led to the abandonment of the project.

In any case, it is an incredibly unique Machine, that deserves to be known by more enthusiasts and another piece of proof of the fantastic "out-of-the-box" engineering that was being performed in Japan during late 80´s and early 90´s.

Racing in South Africa´s Knysna Speed Festival Hillclimb and claiming victories on the event on 2015, 2016 and a 2nd Place in 2017, this is Desmond Gutzeit´s take on the Iconic Nissan Skyline GTR R32. Starting its life as a Drag car, lots of power was always a requirement. A Highly modified RB28DETT pushing over 1000Hp took care of that but then a new goal came: Knysna Hillclimb´s record.

With various iterations of the model having increasing values of horsepower as it evolved along the years, we arrive at the last version as seen on the video, with over 1400Hp and sporting an Aerodynamic bodykit capable of holding its own among the Time Attack Crowd. And the rest...well...it needs to be seen and listened to.

This is a remake of one of our very first videos of the Channel, now with Onboard footage added as well as some important outside shots. This Monster did not compete on 2018 due to health issues wit Mr. Gutzeit, but it is well on its way to return on 2019, as powerful as ever.
