A veces resulta complicado recordar que variantes tuvo cada modelo o en que años se fabricó.
Y es que la historia de Alfa Romeo es muy larga.

Este listado intenta facilitar el trabajo para localizar esa información, asi como numeración de chasis y motores y otros datos técnicos.

Si alguien se anima a completar la lista a partir de 2007 o encuentra algun gazapo o modelo olvidado, solo tiene que decirlo.

"El sistema de numeración de los Alfa Romeo 1900 entre los números 00037 y 91539 era el siguiente:

La 2ª cifra indica el millar, la 3ª la centena, la 1ª la decena y la 5ª la unidad; la 4ª cifra (3) es fija.
Por ejemplo el nº 00037 es el 7º; el nº 50238 equivale al 258º; el nº 01030 indica el 1.000º y el
nº 91539 se le dió al vehículo 1.599º. A partir del nº 1600 la numeración ya es sucesiva".

NOTA: Luigi Fusi realizó un EXTRAORDINARIO trabajo de recopilación tras su jubilación en Alfa Romeo.

Pero por una parte a causa de la estructura de los archivos de la casa y por otra al sistema (totalmente manual) de
toma de datos, existen numerosas omisiones y reiteraciones en ésta relación.

Asi que es posible encontrar un mismo número de chasis en dos años diferentes o no encontrar el que uno busca.

Ésto se produce especialmente con los vehículos destinados a la exportación, aunque no sólo en ese caso.

Existe una versión ampliada con posterioridad en el libro:

• "Alfa Romeo Catalogue Raisonne 1910 – 1989" Luigi Fusi (2 volúmenes)

Y este otro libro puede considerarse fundamental.

• "All the Alfa Romeo Production Cars 1910 – 1996" Tabucchi y D'Amico (2 volúmenes)

Alfa Romeo 6C 2500 Super Sport engine conversions

It would appear that the commercialized “Super Sport” configuration was considered to be a modification to the engine (as well as perhaps the gearbox on occasion) and that there was a “kit” number for that conversion. It seems that a plate was attached to the firewall or right side inner fender panel for cars that were fitted by Alfa Romeo (or their dealers?) with the “Super Sport” conversion. There is no reason to assume that a SuperSport conversion was always precisely the same and there is every reason to believe that some engines had additional preparation above and beyond the “Super Sport” conversion. Clues can sometimes be found in compression ratios stamped near the engine number, but there is no reason to believe that every mechanic assembling an engine followed precisely the same procedure as another mechanic doing similar work.

It would seem logical that a good number of early SS conversions might have been performed as retrofits, but it also seems logical that a retrofit might have been fitted to any car/engine at most any time during the original production run and perhaps even into a short period of time after production stopped. For the “918xxx” series of chassis numbers, it would seem that all engines were fitted with the Super Sport conversion, but no numbers have been observed or reported as yet to indicate that a kit number was recorded on the car. Any additional SS “conversion kit” numbers would be very much welcomed to this study!

This chart attempts to show the Super Sport “kit” or conversion numbers identified thus far. Any additional information would be most welcome!
In some cases, the “SS” designation appears on the plate affixed to the car. Sometimes the plate shows only the number without mentioning “SS”.
Again, the plate is most commonly found on the firewall (particularly for early cars), but sometimes has been found high on the right inner fender panel near the carburetors.
To be thorough in our study, we should probably note the types of plates found and the location fitted. Photos are always nice!
